How to get active in your 3rd Trimester of Pregnancy

Pregnancy has been a whirlwind, and if I am candid, my health has taken a backseat. I always envisioned waking up going for a walk, fixing a healthy breakfast, lunch, and dinner, or having a smoothie with just the right amount of folates and fiber to keep me energetic and active throughout the day. Here and there, I would take short walks or have a healthy meal, but it just didn’t compare to the number of french fry cravings I would have for the day.

Nevertheless, those things fell through, and here I am in my third trimester, asking myself how did this pregnancy go so fast! I recently asked my doctor if it was too late to start my fitness journey in the third trimester. She said no; however, I may want to avoid jumping on a bicycle or lifting heavy weights as my body is not ready for those strenuous activities. She recommended doing a brisk walk for 20-30 minutes each day and throwing in some prenatal yoga to increase my strength and flexibility, and help with breathing and relaxation.

If I am counting the weeks, I have approximately 11 weeks before our second bundle of joy arrives. And if I want to have a smooth third trimester, I have to start revising my health & wellness playbook.

I decided to write out my goals for the last trimester.

  1. Drink at least 32 ounces of water a day
  2. Do Prenatal Yoga, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
  3. Take 15-20 minute Brisk Walks Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday
  4. Incorporate more greens in my Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
  5. Try to avoid eating out and learn how to enjoy the time that goes into making a home-cooked meal.
  6. Write out Daily Affirmations and keep them in front of me!

Now that I had set out my goals, I needed something to help keep me on track and consistent. I was on the hunt for the perfect fitness tracker. Adrian and I both love technology, so I wanted something versatile and stylish to wear while working and working out.

So when Garmin reached out to see if I would be interested in trying the Vivomove Luxe smartwatch, an elegant hybrid smartwatch, with the sleek look and technology I wanted, I was overjoyed! It hit all the markers: luxurious look, hidden display, text message screen, health, and fitness tracker, and you can get up to 5 days worth of battery life. The bonus part is that you can build your watch to match your style. You get to choose from six watch faces and 15 wristbands. I couldn’t wait to test it out. I decided to pick the vívomove Luxe, 18K Rose Gold PVD with Rose Gold Dial, and the Quick Release (20mm) White Silicone Band.

So I gave it a go and started incorporating the watch into my everyday routine. This watch does everything, so I instantly fell in love with all the features.

Here are some of my favorite features:

  • tracks your heart rate
  • Tracks your stress levels
  • Tracks your calories
  • Tracks your hydration and goals for the day
  • Has fun Step, Run, or Ride Challenges you can join to connect with a community of healthy people.
  • It syncs with your phone and allows you to receive text messages, control emails, and phone calls.
  • Syncs with your calendar and alerts you on important events
  • Tracks the range of activities you can do from walking to swimming or yoga
  • It also has Workout Videos you can try out to get you motivated and started.
  • It allows you to control music from your phone.

You can access all these features by raising your wrist, which will turn on the hidden display. Once you charge the watch, you will need to download the Garmin Connect App. The app allows you to begin syncing the watch with your phone.

I started my morning with a brisk 15-minute walk.

Once I came home, I made myself a delicious green smoothie and made time for a 20-minute yoga session. After my yoga session was over, I started my day with meetings and zoom calls for work. For lunch, I made a delicious chicken caesar salad with a 32-ounce glass of water. I love that I can visually see how much water I have consumed for the day because it keeps me up to date if I need to drink more, which is vital during pregnancy.

This watch has motivated me to get excited about getting up and active.

This watch has inspired me to make sure I am consuming more water, checking my stress levels, and finishing the remainder of this pregnancy healthy and strong. If I can reiterate what my doctor said, there is no better time like the present to get active during your pregnancy. Start slow and keep that pace until you get to the finish line! Remember, slow and steady wins the race.

And if I can impart anything that I have learned during these last six months, getting active takes mental motivation, whatever you need to kick start living a healthier life, do that! Having this watch has allowed me to focus on my goals and stay positive throughout my journey to the finish line!

And with the holidays vastly approaching, this is a great Christmas gift for someone special in your life! You can learn more about the Vivomove Luxe Garmin Smart Watch here.
