House To Home Series // Part I.

Happy Monday Everyone! I hope you all are having a blessed day. I am so excited to start this House to Home series because Adrian and I just started the process on building our first home! To think we’ve come so far from living in apartments renting to finally becoming home owners. This process has been surreal and it’s going to keep getting surreal-er (if that is a word).

First let me start this series off by saying we are first time home buyers, BLACK first time home buyers, which is an amazing accomplishment. I noticed when we would tour model homes how none of the staged pictures were pictures of black families, which saddened me to see as I feel it’s important to have visual representation inside all model homes.

We knew that in 2020 we wanted to buy our first home. A home where we could raise our family and call ours. After looking at several different model homes we finally came across a builder and a home we thought would be perfect for us. As we began moving forward in the process, we were able to visit the design center to see all the things we would want in our dream home. Luckily to my surprise a lot of what we wanted was included. Check out our video to see our experience and some things we want in our home.

My takeaways from visiting the design/dream center

  1. Have a Pinterest Board of your dream home including, back-splash, flooring, kitchen, fixtures.
  2. Try to price out things you want before hand.
  3. Decide what your non-negotiable are and the things you can allow more wiggle room. \
  4. Be open to changes and stick to your budget. You will find yourself getting design happy and going way over your budget if you don’t.
