Old San Juan, Puerto Rico- City Guide

Travel Tuesday is here and I am talking all about my trip to Puerto Rico! Earlier back in August, I surprised my husband with a trip to Puerto Rico for his 30th birthday! I picked Old San Juan, because I really wanted to visit a place where there was a lot to see and do! Most vacations are spent relaxing and having no agenda. But not mine! I wanted to make sure our itinerary was packed with great activities. While we were only there for three days, we accomplished so much within that time!

Today, I am sharing my personal city guide when traveling to Old San Juan, Puerto Rico for the first time!

Where we stayed:

Condado Vanderbilt Hotel – About 15 minutes from Old San Juan by Uber! Great service, beautiful rooms, our room wasn’t extremely large, but it had a great balcony.  The amenities (i.e. Gym & Pool) were wonderful! Restaurants in hotel were ok…I would recommend eating at a restaurant in Old San Juan!

Where we ate:

Raices- The BEST Puerto Rican food I have ever tried (and I know there are probably even better places!) But, I will say the atmosphere combined with the cuisine, delicious! I had a Tropical Passion cocktail that was a fusion of their Bacardi Big Apple rum, Passion Fruit & Cranberry Juice. This drink was tasty! For our appetizer we shared the Boricua festival, which included Cassava, cheese fritters, cassava sticks & plantain chips. For our entrees I had the Mofongo (mashed green plantains) with shrimp in garlic creole sauce and Adrian had the mofongo with skirt steak in chimichurri sauce! Everything tasted heavenly.

Cayo Blanco

I enjoyed the seafood pasta while Adrian had their golden snapper. The restaurant is very intimate and the food was excellent.

What we did:

  • Day 1: Catamaran Boat Cruise
  • Day 2: Old San Juan Food Tour
    • Explore: El Morro
    • Night Life: Old San Juan bars
  • Day 3: El Yunque Rainforest

Extras Scenic Pictures:

We accomplished a lot in 3 days. The island is absolutely gorgeous, while we only got to see a few spots, I made sure we took extra pictures of all our activities.

There is so much beauty in Puerto Rico, my time there was nothing short of amazing. If you’re a travel nerd like me, then you will love this place!
